Camp Lejeune Litigation Dominates Law Firm Advertising Spend - According to research firm X Ante, contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina has become one of the largest draws for legal firm and lead generation advertising over the previous decade.
The data is even more startling because the Camp Lejeune claims process was only established in August when President Joe Biden signed the PACT Act, a veterans’ healthcare and benefits bill that removed many of the government’s defenses to claims that the water at Camp Lejeune was contaminated with chemicals that cause cancer, miscarriages, and other health problems. X Ante believes that more than $116 million has been spent on advertisements for the claims, which is only topped by advertisements for asbestos, weedkiller Roundup, and blood thinner medication Xarelto.

According to X Ante founder and president Rustin Silverstein, asbestos and mesothelioma have long been the most common subjects of mass tort advertising. According to X Ante statistics, asbestos ad spending has reached approximately $580 million over the last ten years, hundreds of millions more than any other issue.
According to the data, spending on Camp Lejeune advertising totaled more than $111 million last year, more than double what was spent on asbestos during the same period.
According to X Ante’s research, the Camp Lejeune commercials increased the total amount spent on mass tort ads to about $220 million last year. That’s about double what was paid in 2021 when the most popular advertising issue was the herbicide paraquat. However, it is less than what was spent in 2020 and 2019, when Zantac and Roundup dominated the airwaves, according to X Ante.
Following the implementation of the PACT Act, a two-year period began for Camp Lejeune claims to be filed administratively with the Navy’s Tort Claims Unit in Norfolk, Virginia, which can decide whether to accept blame and offer compensation. Suits can also be filed in federal court.
